Dark Corner is a small settlement located approximately 46 kilometres from Lithgow, just north of the Great Western Highway.
This area was originally known as Mitchell’s Creek or Mitchell and is less than a kilometre from Sunny Corner.
In fact, Dark Corner and Sunny Corner are separated by Daylight Creek !
After the gold rush days that began in the 1850’s, and then with the discovery of silver lodes in the area in 1884, people quickly settled into small communities nearby.
It has been suggested that the name Dark Corner comes from the hilly topography of the area- during the middle of Winter, some of the deep gullies don’t receive a lot of sunshine!
The main industry here today is farming and forestry.
