As part of the Portland STEAMworks Astronomy Night, we are honoured to host Wiradjuri Elder and Language Teacher, Aunty Iris, to run a series of workshops in the afternoon before the event exploring Astronomy, Animal Totems and Language through art, story, and song.
Participants will learn about Animal Totems, designing your own Animal Totem card to take home with you, as well as learning to sing a song Aunty Iris has designed, called “Yindyamarra” – Respect.
There will be 3 workshops on during the afternoon, at the following times:
Workshop 1 – 3pm to 4pm
Workshop 2 – 4:30pm to 5:30pm
Workshop 3 – 6pm to 7pm
Please register for an individual workshop when booking tickets for this event.
These workshops are developed for children, however they are open to all ages, and parents and caregivers are more than welcome to join in on the workshop (all attendees will need to book a ticket).
About the workshop facilitator: Aunty Iris Reid is a Wiradjuri Elder from Narromine NSW, and teaches Wiradjuri Language at Yarradamarra, the Aboriginal Centre Dubbo TAFE.
