Painted River Project

14 October 2023 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Come along and enjoy a free morning of creativity in the company of established artists and scientists at our very own Lake Pillans. Residents of Lithgow can paint alongside well known artists and explore aquatic life at an event which brings art and science together in a morning of painting, talks and science on the banks of Lake Pillans. This transformative event is the brainchild of artist and Western Sydney University academic Dr Leo Robba in collaboration with Dr Ian Wright, a renowned water scientist. Lucy Culliton, one of Australia’s most recognised contemporary landscape and still life artists, will be there. You can learn about the waterways and creatures that impact our water ecology and set up in a spot to create an artwork in this unique and precious environment. Come along and enjoy a day of creativity in the company of established artists and scientists. Bring your own art-making materials and a picnic to make a day of it or use some of the paper and paints provided on the day. Selected works will be included in an exhibition celebrating the waterways in early 2024. This transformative project is the brainchild of artist and Western Sydney University academic Dr Leo Robba in collaboration with Dr Ian Wright, a renowned water scientist, and celebrates important waterways around the state.. Water and our river systems are the foundation of healthy cities and human well-being. Healthy local waterways are central to the future planning of our region – the Painted River Project uses art and science to explore the health of our waterways. Often seen as opposing disciplines, art and science are often not much different in their intention – to explore and understand the world in which we live. You will be able to submit your artworks for consideration for the exhibition however this is not a pre-requisite for attendance. PLEASE NOTE: In the event of stormy wet weather, the event will be postponed. Please follow our Lithgow Transformation Hub Facebook page and Instagram profile for event updates. The event is being funded by the Black Summer Bushfire Grants Program which is an initiative of the Commonwealth Government National Recovery and Resilience Agency.
