Glen Davis
Glen Davis sits at the end of the road in the Capertee Valley, where cliffs rise sharply and the bush presses in close.
Once a thriving shale oil town in the 1930s, its industrial past is still visible in the skeletal remains of processing works and scattered foundations near the river. Today, it is quiet and sparsely populated, with a handful of homes, a campground, and access to some of the region’s most striking walking tracks. Kangaroos move across open flats at dusk, and the river runs steadily below the escarpment.
Glen Davis feels remote in the best way, shaped by history and surrounded by country that quickly takes over once you step beyond the township.
