A couple of days walking in Seven Valleys
The walking tracks move through quiet forests, open plateaus and deep valleys, with the landscape shifting as you go. This two-day itinerary brings together a mix of self-guided walks for anyone keen to get out, stretch their legs and spend some proper time in this wide-open landscape.
Day 1
Glow Worm Tunnel
Start your day on the Newnes Plateau where tall forests and soft morning light set a peaceful tone. You can get into the Glow Worm Tunnel walk, a 6km return journey that follows the old railway formation through fern filled gullies. Inside the tunnel, slow down and let your eyes adjust as the glow worms begin to light up overhead.

Newnes Shale Oil Ruins
From there, continue to the Old Coach Road and the Pagoda Track. This 10km return walk flows through forested slopes and opens to views of pagoda rock formations. The changing scenery keeps you moving without ever feeling like you’re in a hurry. If time allows, round out the day on the Newnes Shale Oil Ruins circuit. This 5km walk moves among the remains of the old industrial site, where traces of the past sit quietly beneath the cliffs of the Wolgan Valley.

Day 2
Hassans Walls Reserve
Kick day 2 off with the Hassans Wall Reserve, there’s a short walk, about 1.5km’s, leading to Bracey Lookout with some cracking panoramic views back across Lithgow. And if you up to drive out to Evans Crown near Tarana, a 3km return walk climbing among unique granite rock formations and carrying serious cultural significance as a Wiradjuri corroboree site. The summit feels a long way from everything else.
