Wollemi Twilight Wildlife Walk

June 2 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 5:30 pm on Sunday and Saturday, repeating until 28 July 2024

Exclusive to guests staying in Wolgan Valley!

Get wild with the night owls as we explore the world of the Wollemi’s nocturnal wildlife.

Readied with spotlights designed especially for use with native wildlife, guests can spotlight for Red-necked Wallaby and the Southern Boobook Owl or become involved in one of our regular citizen science projects surveying Wollemi’s truly unique and diverse wildlife such as the iconic Bare-nosed Wombat.

The Wollemi Twilight Wildlife Walk is a fully guided 2-hour walking tour that is perfect for families and wildlife lovers alike. Led by a passionate and knowledgeable local guide, the walk takes you through some of the best areas of the Wollemi for wildlife watching, where we will get to learn about our region’s native wildlife such as the Eastern Grey kangaroo, Wallaroo, Brush-tailed Possum and if you are very lucky, the threatened Powerful Owl or Greater Glider.

By camp light, stop and enjoy a hot chocolate or mulled wine (non-alcoholic of course), and learn about the Wollemi Wilderness – the largest wilderness area in Eastern Australia, and the efforts by scientists, government agencies and the Wolgan Valley community in its protection.

This award-winning tour operates out of two locations in Wolgan Valley including in Wollemi National Park at Newnes and on private property within the central region of the valley.

DISTANCE: 1 – 1.5kms

DEPARTS: Sunset (departure times vary based on time of year)

INCLUSIONS: The tour includes your choice of espresso coffee, tea, non-alcoholic mulled wine, hot chocolate or fruit juice, bottled water, use of specialised wildlife spotlights and headlamps, park fees and knowledgeable local guide.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Please note this tour is only available to guests staying in Wolgan Valley. We strongly recommend booking your accommodation in Wolgan Valley before booking on to this tour to avoid disappointment. A graded slope is present either side of the Little Capertee Creek campground causeway. There is picnic seating with spaces available for wheelchairs available at the Newnes Hotel and Little Capertee Creek campground.

On private property, obstacles along the route which would affect a pram or wheelchair user include a graded slope, road corrugations and potholes. Picnic seating is unavailable however can be provided upon request in advance of the tour.
